Meet Mrs. Merkt:
Welcome to my classroom! I began teaching at Hamilton Central School in 2000 as a Special Education Resource Specialist. After that, I taught for several years in fourth grade, enjoyed many years in second grade, spent a rewarding year teaching a multi-aged, multi-handicapped primary 8:1:1 class, had fun teaching fifth grade for a few years, and have now landed happily in third grade! Change is good, and I have enjoyed (and actually requested) the opportunity to work with students at different levels of their education. Prior to teaching at HCS, I was a special educator and a third grade teacher in Homer, NY.
I enjoy spending time with my husband and three children, traveling, visiting my extended family in my hometown of Spencer, NY, reading and of course, teaching! I've known since I was very little that I wanted to be a teacher.
Meet Mrs. Hanson:
I was born and raised in Ogunquit, Maine. I received my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education at the University of Maine at Farmington and my master's degree in Education from SUNY Oneonta. Prior to moving to New York, I taught in Maine, New Hampshire, and Wyoming.
I have been teaching at Hamilton Central School since 1988. While at HCS I have taught fifth, fourth, and second grades. I'm excited to be teaching third grade!
I live in Hamilton with my husband Rick, who also teaches at HCS. We have two daughters, Hillary and Hayleigh. Hillary lives in Suffolk, Virginia with her "new" husband Ben. Hayleigh graduated from King's College this spring and is attending Springfield College.
I love living and working in Hamilton.
